Shy-Drager
E-Mail Discussion List

I have found the Shy-Drager electronic mail discussion list to be a great source of comfort and information. The list is sponsored by Dr. David Robertson of Vanderbilt University and Egroups.

Table of Contents

How to Subscribe

To subscribe, send a blank e-mail message to shydrager-subscribe@egroups.com, which instructs the list server to add you to the list. The list server picks up your e-mail address from your e-mail header, so there is no need to add it to the message. For example:
     To: shydrager-subscribe@egroups.com
Subject: You may leave this blank
You may leave this blank

Alternatively, you can go to the Shy-Drager subscribe page on Egroups' web site:

www.egroups.com/subscribe/shydrager

How to Unsubscribe

To unsubscribe, send a blank e-mail message to shydrager-unsubscribe@egroups.com, which instructs the list server to remove you permanently from the list. The list server picks up your e-mail address from your e-mail header, so there is no need to add it to the message. For example:
     To: shydrager-unsubscribe@egroups.com
Subject: You may leave this blank
You may leave this blank

Alternatively, you can go to the Shy-Drager subscribe page on Egroups' web site:

www.egroups.com/unsubscribe/shydrager

Posting a Message to the List

To post a message to the discussion group, e-mail it to:
shydrager@egroups.com

Mail Delivery Options

The list server allows you to specify how you want the mail from the discussion group delivered to you. Each option has its advantages, and you may change which option you want at any time. The options are:
Normal This mail delivery option is the default, so if you have just subscribed, there is nothing for you to do. Each mail message is delivered to you as it is posted to the list.
To instruct the list server to use the normal delivery option, send a blank e-mail message to shydrager-normal@egroups.com
Digest This mail delivery option bundles 20 to 25 mail messages together into one larger mail message and delivers these bundles once or twice a day, depending on the list's activity. Each bundle contains a table of contents to help you skim it quickly. The advantage to this option is that it will not fill up your inbox with 50 or more individual emails per day. However, if you decide to reply to one of the e-mails, you must and cut and paste the return address since this is not done automatically.
To instruct the list server to use the digest option, send a blank e-mail message to shydrager-digest@egroups.com
No Mail This mail delivery option specifies that you do not want any e-mails sent to you. You use this option if you wish to view all messages through the Web Interface described below. This option is also useful if you go on vacation and do not want your mailbox to fill up with the posts.
To instruct the list server to use the no-mail option, send a blank e-mail message to shydrager-nomail@egroups.com

If you are using the Web Interface (see below), you can view and change the mail delivery options by using the following address:

www.egroups.com/group/shydrager

Web Interface

Egroups provides a web interface to the Shy-Drager support list. From the web interface, you can:

Joining is easy:

  1. Go to the Egroups home page, located at www.egroups.com.
  2. Select "Sign up today for free!" from the "New Member?" section on the left hand side.
  3. Follow the given directions.

For a list of pages to activities you can do from the web interface, see the Quick Reference below.

Contacting the List Administrator

If you have any technical problems or questions about the Shy-Drager mail list, you may contact the list administrator at:
shydrager-owner@egroups.com

Archive of Old Messages

I used to manually keep an archive of old messages when the list server was run out of Vanderbilt University. When the list server was moved to Egroups, one of the benefits was that Egroups automatically maintains an archive. In addition, Egroups provides search capabilites that I could not. To use the search capabilites, you must join Egroups (free), which I describe above in the Web Interface section. The following will get you to the archive:
